Part of the idea of Nguyen Thu Thuy.

Motivated by the belief that Vietnamese architects are failing to catch up with the development of international construction and architecture, the contest’s organiser, Vietnam Architect Magazine, received nearly 30 submissions, many of which were bold ideas.

For instance, project "Flexiblebox" by a group of contestants from the University of Construction is a module taking advantage of high-tech services such as ATMs, and bus tickets and beverage vending machines.

"Light lakes” by Cao Anh Tuan from the Hanoi University of Architecture uses water surfaces throughout the city to make glass pathways in order to create new places of entertainment.

"The balcony solution to apartments" proposes decorating all balconies of old apartments with colorful flower trellises.

Some projects such as “A museum at Hanoi’s corner” and “Pottery road” are highly practical.

Dao Tran Anh Vu’s "A museum at Hanoi’s corner" project is located at Hang Dau Post and inspired by the image of the hourglass. The lower part of the “museum” exhibits stories about the old Thanh Long Imperial City, Hanoi during the French colonisation and Hanoi during the American resistance.  The upper part is about achievements in the renovation years as well as plans for the future.

"Pottery road” (or Hanoi Ceramic Mosaic Mural)  by Nguyen Thu Thuy suggests making river banks beautiful with colorful pieces of ceramics.  Thu Thuy said her project had been sent to Hanoi authorities for approval.  Though not winning any prize from the Organisation Board, “Pottery road” was awarded a special prize by Panama’s Ambassador.

Eight prizes, 2 first prizes, 3 second prizes and 3 third prizes, were given.  Submitted projects are being exhibited at Gallery No. 45 on Trang Tien Street.
