This exhibition is part of the Hanoi Mural project proposed by painter and journalist Nguyen Thu Thuy. Thuy suggested using colourful pieces of ceramic to make river banks in Hanoi beautiful.

Her project was recently awarded a special prize by Panama’s Ambassador at the “Beautifying Hanoi” Architecture Contest. The project has also received the approval and support of the Hanoi city People’s Committee and the Arts Association.

New Hanoi Art Company, which will implement the project, has organised in Bat Trang Pottery Village in Hanoi an art camp titled The Hanoi Ceramic Mosaic Mural along the Red River – Present to Hanoi on its 1,000th birthday, where artists created the first batches of pottery pictures to be used in the project.

Foreign and Vietnamese Ceramists attending the camp included Joel Bennett from California, the US, sculptor Do Quoc Vi from Hanoi University of Industrial Art, and members of the Hanoi Young Painter’s Club like Vu Hong Nguyen, Tran Dinh Khuong, Nguyen Thu Thuy and others.

The exhibition showcases 50 ceramic mosaic pictures and statues by these artists which combine modern styles and traditional features of Vietnamese pottery. The exhibition will last until May 29.
