Hanoi to decorate 6,000m of dyke with ceramic mosaic

VietNamNet Bridge (27/03/2007) - A giant ceramic mosaic mural with traditional patterns and Hanoi landscapes will decorate 6,000m of the dyke road along the Red River, Hanoi to celebrate the city’s 1,000th anniversary...

This is the idea of journalist Nguyen Thu Thuy, who has won the special prize for unique and feasible idea in the Hanoi architecture contest.

 

Accordingly, a mural painting of 6,000m long and 0.95m high will run along the roads of Au Co, Nghi Tam, Yen Phu, Tran Nhat Duat, Tran Quang Khai, Tran Khanh Du, and the foot of Long Bien Bridge.

 

This unique mural painting will reflect specialized patterns of in six periods – Phung Nguyen, Dong Son, Ly Dynasty, Tran Dynasty, Le Dynasty and Nguyen Dynasty – and incorporate decorative modern art works, paintings of Hanoi and children’s paintings.

 

A large mural painting of a dragon during the Ly Dynasty and the line “Thang Long - Hanoi 1,000 years” will be made at the Chuong Duong roundabout.

 

The giant painting will be made from ceramic bricks, mainly coming from Bat Trang ceramic village.

 

Nearly 50 foreign embassies and cultural centres in Hanoi like the Goethe Institute, L’espace, British Council, Dalte Centre, Russian and Korean Culture centres are ready to help Hanoi realise this project, which is called “The ceramic road along Red River”, by inviting artists in their countries to take part in the project.

 

The first part of this mural painting will be made at An Duong dyke. When the project is finished, it will be the longest mural painting in the world.
