A pilot constructtion of Hanoi Mural finished

(Sai Gon giai phong - 04/02/2008) - A pilot construction, 20-meters in length of the “Hanoi Ceramic Mosaic Mural along the Red River” has just been finished at An Duong border gate.

Stretches of the road leading to the borders gate and a part of the dyke wall along the river are decorated by ceramic and porcelain paintings and statues, featuring festival boats and symbols of the wet rice cultivation and civilization such as cranes and pounding rice...

Hanoi Ceramic Mosaic Mural (HCM) project was proposed by painter and journalist, Nguyen Thu Thuy who has suggested using colorful pieces of ceramic to make river banks in Ha Noi look beautiful.

Thuy’s project was recently awarded a special prize by Panama’s Ambassador at the “Beautifying Ha Noi” Architecture Contest. The project has also received the approval and support of the Ha Noi city People’s Committee and the Arts Association.

The New Ha Noi Art Company, which will implement the project, has organized an art camp in Bat Trang Pottery Village in Ha Noi. The art camp named "Hanoi Ceramic Mosaic Mural along the Red River – Present to Ha Noi on its 1,000th birthday”, is a place where artists created the first batches of pottery pictures to be used in the project.

The traditional arts will be re-created and brought to life again by the skillful hands of contemporary artists. It can be said that the national and cultural heritage is demonstrated through this pottery in a contemporary style.

As scheduled, the road will be officially constructed after the Lunar New Year in celebration of the 1,000th birthday of Thang Long-Ha Noi.
